The North Island

Each region of the North Island has an individual character - there is a huge variety of landscape, people and activities that to try to describe it in just a few words would be impossible. North Island highlights include:

  • Auckland– the country’s biggest city, set between two harbours. Nightlife, sightseeing, shopping, excellent attractions, harbour and island cruises, cultural festivals, all set in a vibrant pacific cultural mix
  • Rotorua– thermal attractions, adrenaline activities, sightseeing, attractions
  • Bay of Islands and Coromandel – sun, fun and a bit of history thrown in! The North Island’s favourite seaside playgrounds
  • Wellington – our capital city and home to Government building, the Beehive; host of the Wearable Art Awards. Experience some of our heritage at the Museum of New Zealand - Te Papa

But there’s so much more to the North Island than this! Each region has wonderful scenery and outdoor activities, walks, dining, nightlife and cultural attractions, as well as its own individual geography, climate and people.
