Stewart Island & Others
Remote Stewart Island, the most southern of the main islands of New Zealand, can only be reached by air or by charter boat or the regular ferry service, across Foveaux Strait from Bluff. Visitors to Stewart Island will find a beautiful unspoiled wilderness, small settlements that welcome visitors and unparalleled opportunities to see wild New Zealand in the Rakiura National Park that covers 85% of the island.

The perfect place to relax and enjoy the slow-paced local lifestyle, keen hikers and nature lovers will be able to spend time walking the tracks in the Rakiura National Park, or visiting the many bays by water taxi.

As well as a large population of kiwi and other native land birds, Stewart Island has fur seals, dolphins, albatross and other pelagic birds. Trips are available to local predator-free Ulva Island near the Oban township at Half Moon Bay for rare native bird encounters. Guided tours are available to many spots on the Island.

For unspoiled natural beauty, remoteness and quiet, Stewart Island has no rival.
