Waste Stations

Wherever you are in New Zealand, you’re never far from a Waste Station where you can recycle your rubbish. Waste stations have facilities to deal with
  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Plastics (which types depends on region)
  • Steel (food) cans
  • Aluminium (drink) cans
  • Plastic milk containers

Also, in many communities you will find clothing donation bins and aluminium can recycling cages where you can recycle your unwanted clothing and cans for charity.

Waste stations are collection points for recyclables, and are often in the same location as transfer stations. Transfer stations collect bagged refuse and take it to a central point to be buried in landfill, so the more rubbish you can recycle, the better it is for our country.

For detailed information on local waste stations, contact visitor information centres (i-sites) or local councils.
